Many of us thought we would never see a day like today.
I am so thrilled for Australia and indigenous Australians and the Stolen Generations in particular!
I loved that line from Rudd about offering the apology with open arms, not with tight fists.
It takes so much energy to be tight.
Better the vulnerability of open arms than the security of protectionism, I say!
I think that was a distinction between Rudd and Nelson today – a conviction of rightness and the sense of freedom in doing right, compared to a self-conscious stiffness of an Opposition Leader, battling a divided party in the face of ten long years of denial.
But at least he got there!
Today has brought hope that we can be a more just and caring nation.
That’s worth celebrating!
