Refusing to be Enemies

Arabs and Jews refuse to be enemies.

I don’t let governments decide who my enemy is.
My enemies are those who want war – whether they be Israelies, Palestinians, Jews or Arabs.
My friends are those who want peace – Israelies, Palestinians, Jews, Arabs and others.
This peaceful message is important, especially in these days of war.

Stop bombing Gaza.
Stop firing missiles at southern Israel.

I take heart from this statement, passed on to me by one of my Jewish friends, from a blog that “appears to be run by a Jew and an Arab both in Israel”

I would add that I think it is important to resist letting overseas events sour our own relationships at home in Autralia. Rather, such events provide opportunity to deepen our human solidarity against all that denies human flourishing.
