Keeping On

How can we not get depressed about the state of things?

As you know, RootandBranches had its genesis in the early stages of the COVID Pandemic. The idea was to share hopeful things, to raise our spirits during the lockdowns. I needed to be reminded that the world was still turning and beautiful things were still happening. And they have been! Thank you to those who have contributed thoughtful and beautiful stories and images with me to share with you.

For me, if it weren’t for Zelensky and the brave people of Ukraine, watching Putin’s war on TV News would be intolerable. So here’s the thing – how do I continue this website of hope without turning a blind eye to the evil going on around us?

I have concluded that I must continue to make choices of hope and healing wherever I find myself, create and share transformations of beauty that mock ugliness, and heart-stirring scraps of truth and honesty that show up corruption and violence for the sad aberrations they are compared to the glorious qualities that promote human flourishing.

In this post we celebrate the goodness of the garden for wellbeing and some music that transports us from the nurturing relaxation and comfort of the familiar to new horizons of energy and motivation.

The Garden Of Pensiveness. 6 May at 19:20

I have found, through years of practice, that people garden in order to make something grow; to interact with nature; to share, to find sanctuary, to heal, to honor the earth, to leave a mark. Through gardening, we feel whole as we make our personal work of art upon our land.
